Tiergarten Nürnberg

Feeding the animals

The Tiergarten Nürnberg (Zoo Nuremburg) was the second zoo in Germany to support marine sustainability by providing animals in the zoo with MSC certified sustainable fish. The zoo decided to become MSC certified after their partner charity Yaqu Pacha started their ‘Deadline – for ocean’s life’ campaign towards the conservation of aquatic animals. Now the seals, penguins and dolphins are all fed tasty MSC certified sustainable herring at meal times.

Tiergarten Nürnberg hosts an information booth dedicated to teaching visitors about the future of our oceans, with the help of ‘Kurt the Cutter’. Kurt is the MSC’s friendly boat mascot who will explain the importance of sustainability, MSC fisheries and marine habitats to visitors of all ages with engaging images and interactive panels.

In the restaurant

During an enjoyable trip to the zoo, guests can enjoy some tasty MSC certified sustainable seafood from a number of great cafés or kiosks.
