Hake

Describe Me

Hake is a thin blue-grey fish. They have a large black mouth lined with lots of pointy teeth. Hake can grow to over 1m in length.

Fish Food

Adult hake feed on squid and other fish like whiting and mackerel.

Find Me

MSC certified sustainable hake is currently fished from the American west coast and waters off South Africa. Hake are usually found in cold waters at depths of between 100m and 500m, although often they come up to feed at night.

Dinner Time

Hake is a popular fish, and is often found in fishmongers. Hake can be used as a substitute for cod in most recipes.

Fishy Fact!

Some hake have been found 1000 meters under water!
