Plaice

Describe Me

Plaice are a brown oval-shaped flatfish with bright orange spots. Plaice are normally around 50cm long, but some have been found at 100cm long and weighing up to 7kg!

Fish Food

Plaice mainly eat molluscs, which are shelled animals like clams, cockles and mussels.

Find Me

Plaice live on sandy seafloors in depths of up to 200m. MSC certified sustainable plaice is fished from Northern Europe and Alaska.

Dinner Time

Plaice are eaten in fish and chip shops all over the world. They are often served in batter with chips as a lovely treat!

Fishy Fact!

Similar to halibut, plaice starts life with both eyes on the same side of its head. As the fish grows older, one eye slowly moves around to join the other!
